There is so much to me… it seems silly to try and put it all on one page!
I guess the relatively short version… I was born in Iowa and lived there with my mom and older brother until…..whoa, that’s not the short version, is it??
Well, I moved around a LOT when I was a kid, leading me to be quite rebellious in my teenage years. I was married at 19, not because I had to, but I wanted to get away from home. My husband and I have been married for 24 years, and I’m not sure where I would be without him! We have two boys, 21 and 19, that mean everything to us. Both graduated as valedictorians of their classes, and both earned full scholarships to their intended colleges. Unfortunately, after a picture-perfect childhood, the oldest was diagnosed with bipolar disease in his sophomore year of college, and we were completely blindsided by the events that came in the wake of this diagnosis. He lost his scholarship, he was briefly hospitalized, and coming to terms with the reality of a lifetime of medication with frightening side effects….well, that will humble ANY family. Fortunately with a lot of love and patience, our family is stronger than ever. Naturally, there are a few bumps in the road ahead, but we are constantly moving forward.
My husband is a police officer, and he’s wanted to be one since he was 5. Eager to try something new, he will be starting nursing school this fall. It will certainly be a turn of events as I am typically the one taking classes. I recently completed my 2nd Masters Degree, and the secondary math certification was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, academically.
I have taught for 11 years at the same school district, and I LOVE what I do! I’ve only taught 6th-8th graders, but it really seems to be the right fit for me. These students understand my sense of humor, yet are not nearly as “overconfident” as many high school students tend to be. I am heavily involved in nearly every committee in our school, and I am also the junior high Student Council adviser. Needless to say, every day is a busy day for me!
In my spare time, what little there is, I enjoy running, reading, watching OLD classic movies (those from the 40s and 50s are the best!), crocheting, or playing out in the yard with our three dogs, a Beagle named Bacon, a German Shepherd named Hank, and our newest addition, a Siberian Husky named Karl. I have recently taken up scuba diving with my husband…and I should be officially certified after one more dive next week. My BIGGEST love, however, is music, and there is always SOMETHING playing in the background and the number of live music concerts I have attended….??? Too many to count!!
